‘Relay Central’ for the Relay for Life of Greene County is at the Greene County Community Center.
For the first time, luminaria can be purchased before the Relay at the Community Center. The luminaria honor a cancer survivor or caregiver or remember someone who lost the fight to cancer. Order forms can be picked up and returned at the Community Center. The suggested donation is $10 per luminaria, with checks payable to the American Cancer Society.
For more information about luminaria call Shirley Stapleton at 515-386-2804.
Also for the first time, a 50/50 cash raffle will be part of the Relay. Tickets can be purchased now at the Community Center at a cost of $1 each or six for $5. One ticket will be drawn at the end of the Relay, with the winner getting half the gross ticket proceeds. The winner need not be present at the drawing.
“The 50/50 cash raffle is a great way for people who can’t attend the Relay to help us reach our goal of raising $50,000 for the American Cancer Society,” said event leadership team member Tori Riley, who is spearheading the raffle. “Everyone who buys a ticket wins because the ways the ACS uses the funds we raise is so worthwhile.”
Finally, registration forms for the inaugural Scrabble 5K Run/Walk can be picked up and returned to the Community Center. The last day for discounted early registration is April 14, but registrations will continue to be accepted until the morning of the Relay, April 22.
The Relay for Life of Greene County is Saturday, April 22, from 9:30 to 2 pm at the Community Center in Jefferson. More information can be found on the Relay’s Facebook page or by calling Relay chair Peg Raney at 515-386-2797.
